An individual can cancel their registration with the eHealth record online via the Consumer Portal, by calling the helpline on 1800 723 471, or by visiting a Department of Human Services Medicare service centre.

The System Operator can also decide to cancel an individual’s registration with the eHealth record system. This could occur if the individual is not considered eligible for registration, if their identity has not been appropriately verified or if they pose a threat to the security or integrity of the eHealth record system.

An individual can re-register with the eHealth record system which will re-activate their cancelled record.

CPOE is a computer application that allows a provider's orders for diagnostic and treatment services (such as medications, laboratory, and other tests) to be entered electronically instead of being recorded on order sheets or prescription pads. The computer compares the order against standards for dosing, checks for allergies or interactions with other medications, and warns the provider about potential problems.

 The CSP Officer acts as the liaison between a Contracted Service Provider and the System Operator. There must be at least one CSP Officer and there can be up to three at one time.

Computerized functions that assist users in making decisions in their job functions. In the practice of medicine, these functions include providing electronic access to medical literature, alerting the user to potential adverse drug interactions, and suggesting alternative treatment plans for a certain diagnosis

 Support the capture and reporting of quality, performance, and accountability measures to which providers/facilities/delivery.

 The ability to generate and/or receive summaries of relevant clinical information on a patient that are typically transferred between healthcare providers when a patient is referred to a specialist or admitted or discharged from a hospital.

 Emergency access is access by a registered healthcare provider organisation to an individual’s eHealth record to lessen or prevent a serious threat to a person’s life, health or safety and where it is unreasonable or impracticable to obtain the individual’s consent. If a participant asserts that these circumstances exist, the access controls of the individual’s eHealth record are overridden. Emergency access can also occur where it is necessary to lessen or prevent a serious threat to public health or public safety. Emergency access expires five days after the assertion of the emergency is made.

 Evidence-based medicine is the conscientious, explicit and judicious use of current best evidence in making decisions about the care of individual patients. The practice of evidence-based medicine means integrating individual clinical expertise with the best available external clinical evidence from systematic research and patient values and expectations. 

 Method of identification used by DHS to establish ownership of an eHealth record.

 FHA is a collaborative body composed of several federal departments and agencies, including the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), the Department of Defense (DoD), and the Department of Energy (DOE). FHA provides a framework for linking health business processes to technology solutions and standards, and for demonstrating how these solutions achieve improved health performance outcomes.

 Federally Qualified Health Centers are public and private non-profit health care organizations that meet certain criteria under the Medicare and Medicaid Programs (respectively, Sections 1861(aa)(4) and 1905(l)(2)(B) of the Social Security Act and receive funds under the Health Center Program (Section 330 of the Public Health Service Act). Types of FQHC include: Community Health Centers, Migrant Health Centers, Healthcare for Homeless Programs and Public Housing Primary Care Programs. The main purpose of the FQHC Program is to enhance the provision of primary care services in underserved urban and rural communities.

 A formulary is a list of medications (both generic and brand names) that are covered by a specific health insurance plan or pharmacy benefit manager (PBM), used to encourage utilization of more cost-effective drugs. Hospitals sometimes use formularies of their own, for the same reason.

 A Full Access Nominated Representative is able to perform all the functions of an Authorised Representative in respect of an individual’s eHealth record with the exception of cancelling the record, viewing the Access history, and viewing or adding other representatives. A Full Access Nominated Representative must verify their identity to the System Operator.

 Health data intermediary or HDI means an entity that provides the infrastructure to connect computer systems or other electronic devices used by health care providers, laboratories, pharmacies, health plans, third-party administrators, or pharmacy benefit managers to facilitate the secure transmission of health information, including pharmaceutical electronic data intermediaries as defined in Minn. Stat. §62J.495. This does not include health care providers engaged in direct health information exchange.

 The National Infrastructure Operator is the business area responsible for providing and managing the eHealth record system on behalf of the System Operator.

 The National Library of Medicine (NLM), on the campus of the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland, is the world's largest medical library. The Library collects materials and provides information and research services in all areas of biomedicine and health care.

 The National Prescription and Dispense Repository is a medications repository that supports access to prescribed and dispensed medications information for registered individuals.

 The National Repositories Service ensures that there is capacity to store a minimum critical set of health information about registered individuals, including Shared Health Summaries, Event Summaries, Discharge Summaries, specialist letters and consumer-only notes. The System Operator operates the NRS.

 PAC

 A Personal Access Code is a code generated by the individual to provide a Nominated Representative with access to the individual’s eHealth record.

 A PDA is a handheld computer that offers relatively limited functionality and computing power. Often used primarily as organizers, but some PDAs offer wireless e-mail and Internet access. Increasingly used in clinical practice for applications such as taking patient notes and ordering prescriptions.

 An electronic record of health-related information on an individual that conforms to nationally recognized interoperability standards and that can be drawn from multiple sources while being managed, shared, and controlled by the individual.

 Personal observations allows the recording and viewing of childhood measurement information such as a child’s height, weight and head circumference. This is a personal health note that healthcare providers cannot view.

 PACS are systems that acquire, transmit, store, retrieve, and display digital images and related patient information from a variety of imaging sources and communicate the information over a network.
           

 an approach to health that aims to improve the health of an entire population. One major step in achieving this aim is to reduce health inequities among population groups. Population health seeks to step beyond the individual-level focus of mainstream medicine and public health by addressing a broad range of factors that impact health on a population level, such as environment, social structure, resource distribution, etc. An important theme in population health is importance of social determinants of health and the relatively minor impact that medicine and healthcare have on improving health overall

(Healthcare Provider Organisation)

 An alternative access level that can be applied to healthcare provider organisations by individual patients is restricted access. This allows an organisation to have restricted access to an individual’s clinical documents.

 An ROI analysis means to evaluate an investment by comparing the magnitude and timing of expected gains to the investment costs.

 The process of managing risks to agency operations (including mission, functions, image, or reputation), agency assets, or individuals resulting from the operation of an information system.  The Rural Health Clinic Services Act of 1977 (Public Law 95-210) was enacted to address an inadequate supply of physicians serving Medicare beneficiaries and Medicaid recipients in rural areas and to increase the utilization of non-physician practitioners such as nurse practitioners (NP) and physician assistants (PA) in rural areas. There are approximately 3,800 RHCs nationwide that provide access to primary care services in rural areas.

 RxNorm provides normalized names for clinical drugs and links its names to many of the drug vocabularies commonly used in pharmacy management and drug interaction software, including those of First Databank, Micromedex, MediSpan, Gold Standard Alchemy, and Multum.
